A memorial flag and flagpole were placed on the Pinkney house front lawn in the early 1970’s. The flagpole plaque reads “In memory of Paul J. Rooney, Superintendent of the Rowayton Post Office 1964-1971 from his many Rowayton friends.” In the 1980’s, the Rowayton Gardeners decided it would be nice to create a garden around this memorial flagpole. The stone wall was built and Ruth Kipp, who lived at that time on Rowayton Avenue, led the Gardeners in the original planting project.
