Tender Bulbs Emerging?

If you find that the mild weather has shaken your spring bulbs awake prematurely, protect them by covering them loosely with evergreen boughs.  Remove the branches when the threat of a hard freeze is past and sustained temperatures in the high 40s/low 50s is reliably upon us.  It’s exciting to see the sprouts so raring to go, but we all know CT weather can deal them a blow over the next few weeks.  Note that this is also a great time to cut back your roses and hydrangeas – but be sure to check the pruning tips online or in your library of gardening books.
