Tuesday, June 5
10:45 am - 12:45 pm
Please join us Tuesday, June 5th, for a special and memorable visit to one of the most beautiful areas in Manhattan. Our tour guide will be Joyce Gold, of Joyce Gold’s History Tours of New York, author of ‘From Trout Stream to Bohemia: A Walking Guide to Greenwich Village History.’
We’ll visit such oases as the church garden of St. Luke-in-the-Field, Washington Square Park, Christopher Park Viewing Garden, Sheridan Square Garden and the verdant Jefferson Market Garden (pictured here). Joyce will explain how the spirit of Washington Square Park developed differently from that of the West Village and we’ll learn of some of the difficulties in creating and retaining parks in Greenwich Village and how their protectors have prevailed.
