Join the “Garden Gang” After School at the Potting Shed

The Rowayton Gardeners are happy to announce that “Garden Gang” is back in action this spring! Join us at the Potting Shed to get outside and get your hands dirty. Guided by instructors, children will learn all about the natural world around them as well as plant, tend, and harvest fresh vegetables and herbs. Our spring series will cover a range of topics from pollination and botany basics to the life cycle of a plant and composting.

The sessions will be offered as a Series Package and not sold individually. They are available to children ages 6-10 on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:15pm on the dates listed below. The fee of $120 per child will cover all four programs, class materials and a snack. We can only accommodate 15 children, so please register as soon as possible!

Wednesday April 26th – How Does the Garden Grow?

Discover how flowers make seeds and why pollinators are important to this process. We will conduct a fun science experiment to learn the parts of the plant and the children will come home ready to start their own pollinator garden!

Wednesday, May 3rd – Who Visits the Garden?

Learn all about the many different animals that are pollinators. Join us on a scavenger hunt as we identify the types of pollinators and then complete a special garden project to make sure your own garden has many good visitors this spring!

Wednesday, May 24th – Fruits vs Veggies

Learn about what fruits and veggies we enjoy thanks to pollinators. Did you know that 90 different crops rely on the hard work of honeybees? Join us as we dig into what exactly seeds do and create our own potted strawberry plant to take home. We’ll finish up with a showdown where we vote on our favorite fruits and veggies while learning more about what you can grow in the garden to enjoy at home!

Wednesday, May 31st – Protecting Pollinators

Explore the many ways we can be responsible citizens by helping protect pollinators and their habitats. From designing your own pollinator garden and composting to learning and sharing the ways in which pollinators are important, we’ll wrap up the series by planting at the potting shed and providing ways for each student to continue their gardening at home!

Register and pay online. There are no refunds for classes missed by the students. Should a class be canceled by the Rowayton Gardeners, there will be a make-up class or refund offered.
